Benefits of Pregnancy Massage

Massage Increases blood circulation, which provides more oxygen and nutrients to both mother and fetus and stimulates the lymph system, thereby increasing immunity and removal of toxins helping stabilise hormone levels. Massage can also help relieve depression and anxiety caused by hormonal changes. Soothing gentle massage strokes help relaxes the nervous system by releasing endorphins into the mother’s body.

As a result, you will feel more relaxed and at ease, and will also sleep more easily and more deeply

Massage can assist in the following:

• Maintaining good posture

• Adjusting to a changing alignment (caused by the baby’s increasing weight)

• Increases muscle tone and flexibility, enhancing the ability to carry this extra weight

• Relieves aches and pains, leg cramps and muscle spasms

• Eases the load on the heart

• Helps keep blood pressure in check

• Enhances the pliability of skin and underlying tissues

How will I be positioned?

This depends on you and what stage you are in your pregnancy.  Prenatal massage can be performed in a side lying position or in a seated position.

These options are discussed with me during your consultation. Everyone is different so it does depend on each individual and what you are happy with.

How long will the treatment take?

It is very important that during your appointment with me you are not rushed, therefore appointments are booked for slightly longer than a normal massage.

The reason being is that it can take slightly longer for you to get comfortable during your treatment, and I want you to feel completely relaxed during and after.

What can I expect?

When you arrive you will be asked to take a seat and complete a medical questionnaire. I will go through the medical questionnaire with you and ask you a few questions about your pregnancy. Once the medical questionnaire is completed we will go through massage positioning and what we feel will suit you and your bump. I will give you some time to change and can assist you depending on your stage in pregnancy.

Once you are comfortable I will check your position and will make adjustments by adding support with cushions and bolsters. Treatment will commence. Once your treatment has finished it is important you take your time and get dressed slowly and sit quietly with a glass of water. I will offer to stay and help you from the position you are in (side lying) sometimes women in their 3rd trimester can struggle with getting on and off the couch. It is also normal for expectant mothers to experience slight dizziness or mild nausea after a massage, therefore I will always make sure you are feeling well enough before leaving. There is nothing worse than being rushed out the door after a relaxing treatment. Our aim is to make you feel completely relaxed and at ease.
